NVAD's First Fridays Celebrates Ten Years!

The North Village Arts District has been hosting First Fridays for ten years now, can you believe it!?  And, if you were in attendance the First Friday in September, during the celebratory festivities, you’ve already experienced why.

It’s fun, for a start.  Fun for kids, fun for young folks, fun for artists, fun for vendors, fun for adults, and fun for our wise community of  elders  too.  Know why?  Cause there’s stuff for all those groups.  Fun stuff.

Stuff like:  Jabberwocky break dance  performances, belly dancing,  music on the street, music inside the  galleries, DJ jams, buskers, and so on.  That means:  opportunities to nod and sway, opportunities to shake a leg, to grab your partner and do a little doe see doe.  There are also opportunities to give your eyes a break from the screen,  people watch, and, of course, stare at beautiful art such as:  stunning photographs, sculptures, handcrafted  jewelry, drawings, and paintings, kids art projects and more.  You can even gaze into the sunset soaked, muraled buildings and think about making your own art.  It’s fun!   Then, go grab a bite.  These things can make a person wildly peckish, and thankfully, there are plenty of places to eat and drink, sip coffee  and  savor desserts, just-round-the-corner throughout The District.

It’s a see and be seen kind of  event.  Of course, you can easily meander amongst all the offerings and enjoy an artful, soulish stroll of solitude, if that’s more your vibe.

Make it what you want, First Fridays are your oyster!

Just check out these First Friday grins!

Incidentally, First Fridays, aside from being a large economic boost to the area, also foster an appreciation and support network for local  artists of all types.  Other cities, at least forty-seven (probably more),  around the U.S. have something similar.  Turns out, these events supercharge more than just art awareness; First Friday events help cities thrive in ways that can sometimes get overlooked.  Our own city did a report on such things, interspersed  with quotes from leaders of business and government and non-for-profits. What they say really makes ya stop and think and wonder why we sometimes struggle to support the arts.

But struggle no longer!  First Fridays run year-round, oh and also, also, also, the ten year celebrations aren’t over!  You can enjoy more of what NVAD has to offer by joining their annual fundraising party on October 13th on The Roof, take a look at the details here.  We hope to see you there, it’s good to be here!
