The Glance of Flowers: District Planters in Full Bloom
Exploring The District this spring/summer has offered visitors a touch more than usual; more glances too.
And we aren’t talking about all the groovy things we’ve seen move-in since we gave The District Spring updates back in March, yes, even in that short time we’ve seen some wonderful new businesses arrive:
Savannah Myers Nail Salon (inside Serendipity Salon & Gallery)
fabulous new libations and eateries:
Hokkaido Ramen (opening soon)
Bamboo Terrace (reopened!)
Cola’s Kitchen (opening soon)
DP Dough (opening in August)
and a few places that are expanding in The District (heck yes!), who recently relocated:
we’re also pretty stoked to have some brand new neighbors; a new apartment complex opened up this summer:
Brookside Apartments
Which is all well and good. Well and great! But . . .
But have you noticed the FLOWERS!!?
You surely must have. They are beautiful. Gorgeous. They are bursting forth from District planters, to the left, to the right, the East, the West, North and South. They are reaching their charming faces up towards the sky, a la a scene from Alice in Wonderland, and every now and then taking their (as renown naturalist John Muir puts it) ‘glances’ at the many passers by.
And us at them too, naturally. Unavoidably!
The planters came under the responsibility of The District in 2023 when we took the plantings over from the City —and what a joy-producing responsibility!
We all know pictures can’t always capture the true beauty of things, but still, just look at these babies-
The District was able to bring these floral beauties to the neighborhood via a contract with local green thumb experts, River Hill Landscaping LLC. The year before (2023) we partnered with Helmi’s. Both years have shown some remarkable results!! We even get calls to The District offices asking for the types of flowers, which is an exciting change for us, we’re learning too and having a blast meeting all the curious admirers.
It’s bananas, in the best type of way.
Safe to say, we hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy the lovely cacophony of colors as you do your eat, shop, play local in downtown CoMo. If not, come by soon! We don’t want you to miss out on the planter-eye-candy as well as the many other joyful experiences you can find in The District.
There are always flowers for those who want to see them. - Henry Mattise
It’s good to be here!
