Busker Festival in The District

Imagine.  Just for a moment.

You’re walking down the street, minding your own business.  Thinking your thoughts, or, sometimes trying not to think your thoughts, wanting some solution to the things that concern you to arrive.  But fate permits an interruption; the sound of music.

A musical intervention!

Whisking us into a different state of  being, into the overtones and vibrations of well-being.  At least, that’s what Harvard researchers have concluded.  In two recently published articles (one from 2021 and another from 2022) Harvard Medical School research appears  to be nudging us all to invite more music into our life, with good reason.  Turns out, science has given us the resounding affirmation that many of us have encountered after listening to some good tunes - it’s good for us.

Music has many benefits - from improving cognitive function, to decreasing stress levels, to lifting mood, and (if we dance along with the beat?) music  can even improve our physical gait and balance.  Neat-o-stuff.  Know what else?  Columbia is home to a terrific host of talented musicians.

For these reasons (and more) The District is excited to be presenting the first ever “Busker Festival” this Friday and Saturday. Come  celebrate the last weekend of The District’s Drink & Dine fun in style by tossing on your favorite summer caftan for the Caftan Crawl and enjoying all the melodies of live music, balloon art, giant bubbles, CoMo Acro performances, local artists and more -  discovering the many benefits for yourself!

Nathan James, The District’s partnering organizer for the Busker Festival and local musician, has a soft spot for the busking life, “I  love that it gives the freedom and flexibility for artists to develop their music and performance skills.  Also, Columbia locals seem to have a soft spot for performers and usually demonstrate their appreciation through generous tips.”    Way to go CoMo!

A list of the performers along with their pictures are below.  We look forward to seeing you there -
